History behind the name Keralam

The name Keralam comes from the word "Kera". Kera Vriskham is a malayalam word for Coconut Tree. Cocunut tress are very common in Kerala state and we can see that everywhere. And it is also a part of all malayali's life .. Coconut Oil, Toddy , Sweets etc etc are there as part of all Keralites making from Coconut Trees.

The word Keralam means Land of Kera Vrikshams ( land of Coconut Trees ) .

But unfortunately other states in India like Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have overtake Kerala in the production and numbers of Coconut Trees. Now its funny that Coconuts are coming to this "land of Coconut Trees"from other states. It is due to the more development and construction works in this state. And there is no proper actions from government and people for preserving and increasing the Coconut Trees in this State.
